Every entity has revenue model &amp; this works best for BuzzFeed. \u00a0One of my friend wrote a nice post <a href=\"http:\/\/minimaxir.com\/2015\/01\/linkbait\/\">Quantifying the Clickbait and Linkbait in BuzzFeed Article Titles<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>It was my prejudice that did me wrong at the time:<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ponnappa\/status\/611811575268163584\">https:\/\/twitter.com\/ponnappa\/status\/611811575268163584<\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, I decided to visit the site to find if they are now in fact producing original content. But I found otherwise [30 mins task, because I follow r\/india &amp; Quora]. Check out the stories along with original sources and how BuzzFeed made story out of it.<\/p>\n<p>1. \u00a0About scoring 33% in exam.<\/p>\n<p>There was a discussion thread on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/india\/comments\/396x8f\/dude_managed_35_in_all_the_subjects_10th_boards\/\" target=\"_blank\">\/r\/india<\/a> about the a kid <a href=\"http:\/\/imgur.com\/DKrwaVF\" target=\"_blank\">scoring 33%<\/a> in all his papers, we all laughed commented after seeing the poster and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/shayanroy\/score\" target=\"_blank\">BuzzFeed copied it happily from there<\/a> making story out of it.<\/p>\n<p>2. On flipkart fake discount.<\/p>\n<p>A user on r\/india posted a <a href=\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/m4RZM4J.png\" target=\"_blank\">picture<\/a> of how one of the seller on Flipkart inflated the price and made fool of buyers by giving discount. The complete discussion thread is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/india\/comments\/38icaw\/flipkart_does_it_again_inflates_the_price_of_an\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>\u00a0and there we have<a href=\"http:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/karimasanela\/flipkart-fake-discount\" target=\"_blank\"> BuzzFeed again making story of the same.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>3. Picking popular post from Facebook &amp; making it Clickbait.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most popular post on Facebook was how outsiders think about India, it was posted on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/thenonsensestate\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/thenonsensestate<\/a>\u00a0and this is how <a href=\"http:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/karimasanela\/how-different-india-is-from-what-the-world-thinks\" target=\"_blank\">BuzzFeed made story out of it.<\/a>\u00a0They had no option but to give credit to original poster.<\/p>\n<p>4. Destinations in India that look like Europe<\/p>\n<p>There was this interesting thread on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.quora.com\/Are-there-any-places-in-India-that-look-like-Europe\" target=\"_blank\">quora where users were discussing about good Indian destination that look like Europe<\/a>\u00a0and then you have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/shayanroy\/save-money\" target=\"_blank\">post on BuzzFeed about same<\/a><\/p>\n<p>5. Indian Army dogs are killed after retirement.<\/p>\n<p>We all know it was all over social media and then <a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiatimes.com\/news\/india\/army-dogs-dont-retire-they-are-killed-off-once-they-get-too-old-to-work-233229.html\" target=\"_blank\">Indiatimes folks wrote detailed story about it<\/a>\u00a0followed by super <a href=\"http:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/karimasanela\/indian-army-dogs-euthanised-after-retirement\" target=\"_blank\">creative writer from BuzzFeed making story about same.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>6. Artist in Bangalore drawing crocodile on road to bring attention about potholes.<\/p>\n<p>This discussion was started on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/india\/comments\/3adj6u\/artiste_in_bengaluru_brings_crocodile_on_road_to\/\" target=\"_blank\">r\/india<\/a> with a user sharing \u00a0story which was published on <a href=\"http:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/cities\/bangalore\/bangalore-artiste-brings-crocodile-on-road-to-grab-attention-of-authorities\/\" target=\"_blank\">Indian Express<\/a>\u00a0It was all over social media and then our super<a href=\"http:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/sahilrizwan\/crocodile-style\" target=\"_blank\"> journos from BuzzFeed wrote the same.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Incase you folks are wondering how am I so sure about this, well do check the date\/time of original post &amp; BuzzFeed one.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>One more thing, If <a href=\"http:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2014\/08\/10\/buzzfeed-raises-50-million-dollars-from-andreessen-horowitz\/\">Andreessen Horowitz has funded them <\/a>\u00a0there must be some reason\/value in it which certainly is not Journalism IMHO.
