I read on various subjects ranging from food, health, science, literature and philosophy. I found Philosophy the most interesting among them all. Some of my favorites were J Krishnamurti, Epicurus, Seneca, Socrates and Marcus Aurelius. I maintain my reading list on Kit.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2847\" src=\"http:\/\/atuljha.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/path.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"603\" srcset=\"https:\/\/atuljha.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/path.png 700w, https:\/\/atuljha.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/path-300x258.png 300w, https:\/\/atuljha.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/path-260x224.png 260w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>These are my learnings so far:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We have to treat the world as one without any division.<\/li>\n<li>We have to live our life moment by moment.<\/li>\n<li>Life is very short.<\/li>\n<li>We have to let go of our anger, ego and attachments with things or people.<\/li>\n<li>Nothing is permanent.<\/li>\n<li>Empathy makes you rich.<\/li>\n<li>We can only control things which are in our hand so worrying about things which are not in our control will harm us.<\/li>\n<li>We have to observe our thoughts (the monkey mind) and not control it.<\/li>\n<li>Having a set of virtues and principles is the key to living our life with fulfillment.<\/li>\n<li>Appreciate what nature offers us. Take short walks to the woods, listen to birds chirping.<\/li>\n<li>Always indulge in any discussion with proper reasoning and logic. Apply the same in everyday life.<\/li>\n<li>Living a life of honesty and truth is more satisfying.<\/li>\n<li>Happiness and pleasure have 3 key ingredients:\n<ul>\n<li>Company of close friends who are honest and share the same set of values.<\/li>\n<li>Independence to live life on our own conditions not under someone we don\u2019t like.<\/li>\n<li>Being aware of our thoughts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>We are conditioned since birth about our associations with race, caste, religion, belief et al.<\/li>\n<li>Love requires no return favors, it is like a free flowing stream.<\/li>\n<li>Anger arises due to conflict and leads to misery and unhappiness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I will be updating the list as my reading journey evolves.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I spent a good amount of time reading after quitting my full time job last year.
