Position

Most successful operators in various managerial businesses and roles where they influence changing lives of many are careful about one thing. They know it is not their job position but the relationship they build with people around them.

While building Taghash, I have been on both sides. Be it connecting founders to potential VCs or VCs to potential LPs. In most cases, I do because of the relationship. These people treated me with open hands when I needed their feedback, advice.

Some of us have forgotten the law of compounding. We are short-sighted. We misbehave because of our job role or position. We don’t realize we will be nobody after being fired from the job.

Passion

We are living in an era of unlimited passion. Our society teaches us to be passionate about work, life, and whatnot. There are authors, YouTubers, and short course content creators living their life by guiding you to define your passion. In short, we are living in passion porn.

Our life is not a race where like lab rats, you run on a pedestal or cattle produced in masses for meat consumption.

The FOMO of being someone or becoming something on top of having a passion makes most of us depressed.

It is okay to be passionless with a willingness to live, adapt or make a living at own’s will.

Live a life minute by minute. Make the best of it. What is there to have a passion and kill yourself?

brag

I find it sad and disheartening to see founders of modern-day startups bragging about themselves and their brands non-stop on social media.

Your teams and customers pain-build companies, nothing else. That is where founders should spend time on. This unnecessary glory or stardom is short-lived. We are seeing the fall of companies in this current era of downturns. The failed business fundamentals wrapped with wrong team incentives are causing havoc.

Let customers and stakeholders brag about you.

itch

Most innovation happens out of the itch. Be it Archimedes or Newton. It all happened out of their curiosity. There was no Twitt3er or
VCs pay them the incentive or price for it. They were curious and went on to change the world.

Our modern-day world has changed our outlook toward everything. We are more dependent on external validation and wealth. The curiosity and itch have gotten diverted with a defined purpose. That is not how the mind works.

We have to let our minds wander and bring the impossible. It should be free from conditioning and influence.

misfit

One of the many pleasures a misfit gets is dying peacefully without blaming others. They have nothing to complain about.
As a misfit, they go miles to cure their itch.

We are living in a world where society dictates our life decisions.
Our society guides us into talking, eating, relationships, marriage, and work. It is like a big brother watching every aspect of our life.

Creating something extraordinary requires doing things differently. In most instances: writing your rule book.
It is not easy for weak hearts. Others will make fun of you. In some instances, they will beat you.

Your action, self-belief, and eccentricity define you and your guiding principles. If you want to make a dent in this universe, do something everyday.

perfect

We are not perfect. We all have flaws within. The sooner we accept it, the better becomes our path to improvement.

Some egoist people don’t accept criticism or try to learn from their mistakes. They want complete respect and surrender. You don’t have to be like them.

Our life has limited moments in it. You don’t have to live hurting others with your actions. It is okay to say sorry, accept flaws, and improve. It is not a sign of weakness but learning.

PS: I am far from being perfect. But I am on the journey of learning and improving myself.

feedback

If you want to see your loved one doing better, be honest with your feedback. Nobody likes to mention others’ flaws for multiple reasons. The fear of making them angry or losing them could be the reason.

We are slaves to our thoughts and actions. We are not perfect. At the same time, we feel like kings or queens in our world. Someone needs to add a needle and bust that myth.

I have been lucky that way. I had people around me reminding me of my flaws more than the good virtues. It was without alcohol so that I could respond or observe myself.

assurance

Our life is not a straight line. It is a mixed journey with curves and shapes. We have to sail through it.

Some of us in our life get lucky. We find helping hands as partners, friends, or parents who are there for you. We are falling for individualism. We are on our own.

Having an assurance that I am here for you and come what may is insurance. It helps us go to the unknown, take a risk, and live life on the edge.

Most of us don’t have that assurance. We are every minute in survival, flight, or fight mode.

Community

Community is about togetherness.
Community is about acceptance.
The optics of the community has changed.
It has become agenda driven. It is more about selling than nurturing.

I got lucky that the 2006-07 Linux user group took me under their wings. I don’t know where I would have ended up now.
I made friends and mentors like Karunakar, Vivek, and others. Most are still part of life. The seed of open source and free software became the prime persona in life.

I sometimes wonder if I learned more from these meetups, open-source projects than going to college.

As I grew up, my career progressed. I became part of other communities like Ubuntu, OpenStack, Drupal, Minio, and others.
